Yesterday was AMAZING!!! In the afternoon, we went to The Great Wall! Although I've been there twice before... I can say it NEVER gets old. It is literally a feat of human strength, endurance, and ingenuity! You are just in awe of it's presence... no other way to put it. As you walk toward it, you just can't help but stop and take MORE pictures!!! To learn more about the Great Wall go here: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/ Yesterday we walked from JinShanLing to SiMaTai. According to the website: http://www.travelchinaguide.com/package/beijingtour10.htm : This hiking route from Jinshanling to Simatai is about 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles), passing by 43 watchtowers (18 watchtowers on Jinshanling, 17 watchtowers on the west section of Simatai and 8 watchtowers on the east section of Simatai). The watchtowers on this section are concentrated, with a tower every 50-100 meters. The Great Wall was constructed with huge stones, with a height of 5-8 meters. The whole trip usually takes people 4 or 5 hours... but we did it in 3!! As you can see from the pics, this wasn't a stroll. There are sections of the Great Wall that feel like they are almost vertical... going both up and down! Both can be quite scary. But all in all it was A LOT of fun. I would do it every week if I had the time. A GREAT workout... unbelievable scenery... and one of those experiences you just NEVER forget. Image
